Authorities in the US have revealed that a large imprint of the numbers 8-6-4-7 that were apparently drawn in the grass of the National Mall in Washington DC is now being investigated.
According to Trump administration officials, the numbers are meant to encourage violence against President Donald Trump.
“Eighty-six” is a slang term which means “get rid of”, while the numbers 47 allegedly refer to Trump, the 47th US president.
According to US Park Police, they “responded to a report of vandalism” on Thursday morning, at around 11:30ET (16:30GMT).
As part of an investigation to find out what caused the discolouration, grass samples have now been collected.
“The cause of the discoloration has not yet been determined. Grass samples have been collected for testing. The investigation is ongoing”, the agency said.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the Interior Department said: “Any threat against the president is taken very seriously by the Department, and our U.S. Park Police will investigate this incident and hold those responsible accountable”.
While images of the grass show the numbers 8, 6 and 7, but the number 4 is not clearly visible.
In the meantime, US prosecutors are attempting to jail the former director of the FBI, James Comey, for a social media post in which the numbers were seen written on a beach in sea shells.
Comey is now facing multiple charges related to an alleged threat to kill Trump, while he has denied the charges and called the prosecution politically-motivated.
These numbers have been used by Trump’s opponents and have appeared at protests against him and his administration.
