Moment fitness influencer ‘breaks’ his face attempting bizarre benchpress stunt with partner

A fitness influencer has gone viral for smashing his face open with a heavy workout plate after trying to film a woman doing squats on it while he bench pressed it. Bradley Martyn got 17.2 million views on TikTok for the gym stunt that went horribly wrong when the "bumper" plate slipped and smacked him right in the mouth. “Two things I did wrong here: Have her spin around and use a bumper plate,” he explained in a subsequent YouTube video called “I BROKE MY FACE,” which went up after his TikTok was deleted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqIEZn4WW0k The painful for-the-fans gym session began with Martyn lying on his back on a bench while holding the plate in his hands as if he were about to bench press it. A woman then steps on top of the weight and, at first, is a bit shaky as she tries to balance on the disk. Martyn then starts doing reps, lifting the plate and the woman through a full extension from his chest, until his arms are fully outstretched. Things then get a little more complicated as the woman starts doing her own exercises while standing on the plate. She does squats while he bench presses her. But a few seconds into the stunt, as the woman squats down, Martyn loses his grip of the bumper plate which then ends up on his face. While, at first, it looks like Martyn could have been seriously injured, he gets away with just 10 stitches. Martyn posted the original video on TikTok on September 22 captioned: “POV: DROPPING UR PHONE ON YOUR FACE.” He has since posted several other viral videos of different angles of the shot and a clip of him successfully executing the stunt.

Defending the stunt on YouTube, Martyn says, “I tried to lift a girl. Now, I’ve done this before where a girl sat down on a plate and I pressed her. But, someone was like, ‘Why don’t you have her stand up?’ and I was like yeah, that’s cool, that’s easy.” The trainer explained that using a bumper plate was also a “mistake” because they’re harder to balance on.
