Ryan Mason is conscious and talking after his skull fracture incident, Hull City confirm

Hull City midfielder Ryan Mason is awake and has been talking about the collision with Gary Cahill that fractured his skull, his club have confirmed.

Mason and Chelsea defender Cahill clashed heads on Sunday's match at Stamford Bridge, which led to both players receiving on-field treatment. Mason was then taken to St. Mary's Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. In a statement, Hull City said:

"Ryan has been speaking of the incident yesterday and will continue to be monitored at the hospital over the coming days where the Club will remain in close contact with Ryan, his family and the staff at St Mary's. "Ryan and his family have also been extremely touched by the overwhelming support they have received and would very much like to thank all of those who have posted such positive comments both on social media and in the press over the last 24 hours."

The 25-year-old player is now in a "stable condition" and will remain in hospital until further notice. Hull captain Michael Dawson, club doctor Mark Waller, head of medical Rob Price and club secretary Matt Wild all visited Mason in hospital this morning, where Mason spoke about the incident. Gary Cahill also went to see Mason over the weekend, along with Chelsea captain John Terry and assistant manager Steve Holland, who spent some time with the injured player's family.   Photo: Richard Heathcote / Getty Images Cahill and Mason collided 13 minutes into the Premier League match between Chelsea and Hull City. Mason went to clear the ball from the Hull box just as Cahill attempted to score, leading to their clashing of heads. Though both players received treatment, Cahill was able to continue the match. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte wished Mason a speedy recovery on behalf of the team, telling reporters: "First of all, everyone at Chelsea wants to wish [Mason] the best. It was a bad accident with Gary. After the first half, it wasn't really good with Gary, but we decided to continue with him. "It was very bad, this accident.
