In the summer, Ozil came in for criticism over a controversial photograph with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan but the playmaker, who has since retired from international football with Germany due to alleged discrimination from the German FA, insists he has two hearts.
"Like many people, my ancestry traces back to more than one country. Whilst I grew up in Germany, my family background has its roots firmly based in Turkey," Ozil said.
"I have two hearts, one German and one Turkish."
Arsenal's Premier League rivals Manchester United are also understood to be monitoring Ozil's position.
