Manchester United to subsidise £102 tickets to away leg in Barcelona

Manchester United will subsidise tickets for away fans travelling to watch the second leg of their quarter-final against FC Barcelona after the Spanish side priced tickets at £102. Angered by the extortionate price - the highest price United fans have ever had to pay for tickets in the club's history for any match that wasn't a cup final - United will charge Barcelona fans the same to watch the first leg at Old Trafford, using the extra cash to subsidise tickets for the second leg. United admitted this was a "difficult decision" in a statement made on their official website. “In this instance we believe that our travelling supporters are again being subjected to increased/excessive ticket prices from the host club,” a statement read. “We have again taken the difficult decision to charge FC Barcelona fans for the home leg at Old Trafford the same amount that FC Barcelona are charging for the away fixture (£102). We will use the additional revenue gained from this to subsidise our travelling support by paying the £27 price difference for each of our travelling supporters.” United fans will now only have to pay £75 for the privilege of watching their side from the very top of Europe's biggest club stadium, in a tie that may already be all but lost, depending on the result of the first leg. https://twitter.com/andymitten/status/1108463392661086208?s=12 This is not the first, and probably won't be the last time United have had to deal with a price hike from a Spanish side for a European tie. The club also intervened when Valencia charged what the club deemed to be unnecessarily expensive tickets in the group stage this season and Sevilla did the same for their round of 16 tie last season.
