Jamie Carragher gives his views on the Jose Mourinho to Manchester United link

Jose Mourinho is rumoured to have once locked himself in his house and cried after missing out on the Manchester United job.

But The Special One might be ensuring his phone is fully charged over the next few days. Mourinho's second spell at Stamford Bridge has come to an abrupt end but Louis Van Gaal might also be experiencing that same sinking feeling. It's going to be an interesting Christmas period at Old Trafford and some United fans are split on the idea of the former Porto, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea boss taking over the hot seat. Jamie Carragher is one of the people who thinks Mourinho and United aren't an ideal match. Speaking on Monday Night Football, the Liverpool icon said “Is Jose [Mourinho] the perfect fit for Man United? I’d say no. “The reason being; if I think of Man United in the past 50 or 60 years of what they’re about, winning trophies, Jose massively ticks that box. But bring through young players? No. “Playing exciting football, cultured football, going for every game? He doesn’t tick that box either. “So if that’s someone that they go for, I think it will show the fear the Man United board have, maybe even some of the supporters who are chanting for him, of other teams getting away from them. “Also the fact Pep Guardiola may be going to Man City, they’re thinking, ‘we’re actually falling behind. “So they’re actually going to forget some of the principles that made the club what they are for the last 50-60 years and they’re that desperate to get back to winning trophies.”
