“He has to see that” – Jamie Carragher criticises Mike Dean for failing to spot Özil handball

Only one game deep into the Premier League season, and we've already witnessed seven goals. Arsenal took the majority of them, scoring two in the last ten minutes to edge past Leicester 4-3 at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night. Arsenal had levelled the game at 2-2 in first half stoppage time, seconds after some fans had questioned the taking of a free-kick Mike Dean had awarded to them for a Riyad Mahrez offside. After the break, Jamie Vardy had put the visitors back ahead with his second of the game. It remained 3-2 until seven minutes from time when Aaron Ramsey brought the home side back to 3-3. In the build up to it, footage has since shown that the ball struck the arm of Mesut Özil. Dean failed to pick up on this. Analysing the game for Sky Sports after full-time, Jamie Carragher drew attention to the position the referee had been in at the time. "I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt to Mike Dean but that's the first time I've seen that [angle]," Carragher said. "He has to see that." "I said to him before the game, 'I know what you go through and I'll try to help you as much as possible' but I can't help you on that you. "You have to see that one. Massive decision in turning this game around." After Ramsey steered home the leveller, Olivier Giroud nodded home a winner for the home side, his header crossing the line after hitting the underside of the bar.
