Fans have been left confused after Anthony Taylor opted not to send Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross off in the Seagulls' 2-2 draw against Liverpool.
Brighton took the lead at a sunny Amex Stadium as Simon Adingra pounced on Alexis Mac Allister's lapse in concentration to pick his spot from range and catch Allison Becker off guard.
Liverpool responded and scored two goals in the space of five minutes, the first a wonderfully worked goal which resulted in Salah finding the bottom left corner with a left-footed finish.
Salah then converted from the spot in the first half of stoppage time after VAR determined Gross to have brought down Dominik Szoboszlai in the box.
Lewis Dunk then equalised in the second half after lazy Liverpool defending allowed him to prod home from a free kick but events at the first half left Liverpool fans fuming that they didn't have a one-man advantage in the second half.
One person wrote: "Don't want to stir up another refereeing controversy but I can't understand why Pascal Gross wasn't sent off for the foul that led to the penalty. The double jeopardy rule only counts in situations where the defender has made a genuine attempt to play the ball. He didn't!"
A second said: "According to the IFAB laws for the 23/24 season, Pascal Groß should have been sent off for his challenge on Dominik Szoboszlai in the first half, which resulted in a penalty for Liverpool.
"A point at the Amex isn’t the worst thing in the world, performance aside. BUT how Pascal Gross wasn’t sent off in that first half is baffling. Yet again let down by poor officiating. However, nothing will change when other fans pick tribalism over the future of the sport."
