US prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Luigi Mangione, the man who is accused of killing healthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
The murder, which took place in December, has been described as a 'premeditated, cold-blooded assassination' by Attorney General Pam Bondi, reports BBC News.
Mr Thompson was shot outside a hotel in New York.
Weeks later, Mangione was arrested following a nationwide manhunt.
It's been reported that investigators believe Mangione killed Mr Thompson because of his anger with US healthcare companies.
He faces 11 state criminal counts in New York including first-degree murder and murder as a crime of terrorism.
If he is convicted of all counts he faces a mandatory life sentence.
He has also been charged with using a firearm to commit murder and interstate stalking resulting in death, charges which make him eligible for the death penalty.
