Todd Meadows, star of American reality TV series Deadliest Catch, has died while filming for the show in a “fishing related incident”.
Meadows has passed away aged 25, during filming on the Bering Sea.
He had been working onboard the Aleutian Lady fishing vessel while crabbing in Alaska, and he died after an accident, it is revealed.
TMZ reported that Meadows died in a “fishing related accident” while filming what is thought to be the long-running show’s 22nd season.
The news was also confirmed on Facebook by the boat’s captain, Rick Shelford, on Monday.
He called it the “most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian Lady”.
“We lost our brother, Todd Meadows,” the captain wrote, confirming Meadows had died on February 25.
“Todd was the newest member of our crew, he quickly became family. His love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone’s respect right away”, he continued.
“His smile was contagious, and the sound of his laughter coming up the wheelhouse stairs or over the deck hailer is something we will carry with us always.”
Deadliest Catch premiered on the Discovery Channel in 2005, and the show follows crab fishermen aboard fishing vessels in the Bering Sea during the Alaskan king crab and snow crab fishing seasons.
