Ofcom launches investigation after receiving 41,000 complaints about Piers Morgan’s comments on Meghan Markle

An investigation has been launched

OFCOM have received more than 41,000 complaints about the comments from Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's interview with Oprah. In the interview, Meghan Markle revealed that she had experienced suicidal thoughts whilst living in the UK with her husband Prince Harry. This brought fury and anger from long-time Markle-hater Piers Morgan, who completely rubbished the claims, saying "I don't believe a word she says, Meghan Markle. I wouldn't believe it if she read me a weather report." His comments have been widely criticised, including by ITV themselves who have stood by Markle's claims, and the mental health charity Mind. The charity said that they were "disappointed and concerned" by the presenter's comments, and that they were "in conversation with ITV about this." And it seems that the public as well have had enough of Morgan's rhetoric, to the extent that tens of thousands have felt the need to complain to Ofcom. Of course the last 24 hours have not been a great day for Piers, as he drew widespread criticism and mockery for storming off the GMB set this morning because of criticism his colleague Alex Beresford had of his actions. Whether today marks an end to the confrontational era of Piers Morgan on morning television remains to be seen, but at the moment he is very much under pressure from all sides. Morgan attempted to clarify his comments on Tuesday morning, explaining that :"On mental illness and suicide, these are clearly extremely serious things and should be taken extremely seriously. And, if someone is feeling that way, they should get the treatment and the help that they need every time." "If they belong to an institution, like the Royal Family, and they go and seek that help, they should absolutely be given it," he added.
