"I was about to enter the fifth year of madness."
We are just one year on from one of the most publicised court cases in celebrity history. The infamous trial of Depp v Heard.
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard were embroiled in a brutal six year legal battle after Depp claimed he had been defamed by the actress who alleged she was a victim of domestic violence during their 15-month marriage.
Just over a year ago, a seven person jury voted unanimously in favour of Johnny Depp bringing the case to an end.
Shortly after the case was closed, Depp and his representatives announced that they were happy to 'formally close the door on this chapter' and stated they 'made clear throughout the process' that their 'priority was bringing the truth to light'.
Now, Depp has unveiled an artwork he painted in the midst of the trial's chaos.
The painting, a painful and modern self-portrait, is inspired by a photograph of Depp which was used to announce Depp as the face of Dior Sauvage.
Depp chose this image specifically in honour of Dior and to thank them for their unwavering support.
Explaining the story being the artwork, the actor said: "I did this at Ralph Steadman's in his studio in around 2021. This self portrait. It was created at the time that was, let's say a bit dark, bit confusing.
"I looked at it and I don't know why. I thought it needed something else it needed further information. When I felt the need to write the basically the counting down of the years.
"Essentially I just wrote Five on there because I was just about to enter into the fifth year of the madness. The reference art is a photoshoot from Dior. That whole time as much as it was painful, Dior stuck to their guns and that was incredible."
The actor concluded: "If you can read in the eyes something that can effect you."
The painting, which is being represented by Castle Galleries, was also shared to their social media channels with another quote from Johnny Depp reading: "If the piece resonates with even just one person, this art has purpose."
Incredible stuff.
