A large family in Scotland have been hit with tragedy after their mum died from a stroke just months after their dad passed away.
After suddenly taking ill, Paula Black, was taken to Hairmyres Hospital in East Kilbride, complaining of weakness in her right arm and leg.
The mum-of-five suddenly collapsed and was placed into a medically induced coma however the 39-year-old was pronounced brain dead on October 11.
Paula, who was described as the "life and soul of the party" has left behind her five children, Chloe, Shaun, Kenzie, Kevin, and Caben.
Paula's death comes just four months after the children's father, Jon-Jo Terry, also 39, died from a heart attack in June.
Their daughter Chloe, who is just 23, will now take over as the children's guardian.
Speaking to the Record, Chloe said: “Heartbroken doesn’t come close to describing how we as a family are feeling. Our mum lived for her kids. She spent every day working and spending it with us.
“She was an incredible mum and gran to my daughter Romy, who she absolutely adored. She was the life and soul of any party and an outstanding friend.
“Anyone who knew my mum knew how much of a loving, outgoing and caring soul she was.
“Me and my mum were more like sisters than mother and daughter. She was my best friend.
“Having her taken away from us so soon has been nothing short of heart wrenching."
A fundraiser has been set up to ease the burden of the funeral cost for the family.
Family friend, Karen Fleming, set up the fundraiser, writing: "On the 11th October our worlds were shattered when sadly Paula passed away peacefully in hospital after suddenly taking ill the previous day at the age of 39.
"Everyone who knew Paula is devastated and in deep shock how such a strong independent woman can be taken far too soon.
"Paula sadly leaves behind 5 of a family.
"Chloe 23, Shaun 18, Kenzie 16, Kevin 12 and wee Caben 4 who are still trying to come to terms with the loss of there Dad, John Jo only in June there.
"We appreciate any donation big or small. And appreciate everyones support in these devastating times."
