Boss accidentally sends £300,000 to the wrong bank account and is yet to get the money back

Palisade Real Assets' head of investments Digby Beaumont accidentally sent $560,000 (£290,000) to the wrong bank account nearly two years ago.

Beaumont was trying to invest in L1 Capital's Long Short Fund on behalf of A&D Beaumont, his family trust, via Apex Group.

The Aussie filled out the required documents by hand, including the BSB and account number.

An interim order from NSW Supreme Court says: "Mr Beaumont, and indeed Apex, became aware that the monies had been paid into the wrong account by reason of the misstatement in the initial application form."

"Mr and Mrs Beaumont completed a change of details form to nominate the correct BSB number. However, the proceeds had already been paid into another account with the Commonwealth Bank."

The court document also explained that Commonwealth Bank have been unable to track down the person who received the funds.

This might not last for long, though, as lawyers have obtained 'discovery powers' in order to be able to locate the recipient. Beaumont's legal team have also won an order that means whoever got the money will be unable to withdraw it from their account, and possibly even spending it.

Commonwealth Bank lawyers said they were unable to say if the $560,000 remained in the account, but they added: "I can't tell you that but let me have a think about what I can tell you. Well, let's just say a freezing order tomorrow is a good idea."
