There’s a new documentary about Billy Connolly airing this week and it’s absolutely unmissable

The last time that Billy Connolly made an appearance on TV, he was still trying to help others despite being unwell himself.  The Big Yin's appearance on Comic Relief moved everyone that saw it because it's impossible not to admire his humour, courage and dignity. As you may know, The Big Yin was diagnosed with the devastating illness three-and-a-half years ago and now shakes uncontrollably down the left side of his body. Well, if you're a fan of the gifted comedian then clear your schedule because Billy Connolly & Me: A Celebration will be broadcast on Tuesday at 9pm on ITV. The one-hour special will feature classic clips of Connolly's greatest moments on stage alongside new performance footage. We're also going to hear stories from his fans and an extremely poignant interview with the man himself. Having entertained us for over five decades, Billy Connolly is a man that's beloved for his anarchic, life-affirming humour – and the unique bond he has with his audience. Famous fans including Dame Judi Dench, David Tennant, Peter Kay, Andy Murray, Eric Idle, Armando Iannucci and Elton John will also be sharing their favourite memories of The Big Yin in action. In what's a very nice touch, we will also hear from the people that absolutely adore Connolly's comedy - from students to pensioners, from Scotland to Qatar – telling heartening, emotional tales of how Billy helped them find love, change careers, tackle obstacles and even come to terms with their own disabilities. Speaking with the Daily Record,  the 74-year-old gave a brief insight into what audiences can expect with the documentary. In typical Billy Connolly humour, he said: "I’ve got Parkinson’s disease … and I wish to f*** he’d kept it to himself! When I’m in front of people and performing, I don’t give it much attention. And I perform in spite of it. That’s why I put on the song A Whole Lot of Shakin’ Goin’ On – just to stick two fingers up to it." The man is a true icon and continues to approach life with his trademark mix of positivity and humour. An inspiration for all. You won't want to miss this show.
