Peter Kay fans stunned by his new look in rare backstage clip

Some said he was 'unrecognisable'

The legendary comic is currently performing at arenas across the UK as part of his new tour, which includes a monthly residency at London's O2 Arena until February 2025.

After a recent show at the venue, singer Bryan Edery (@bryanederymusic) was allowed backstage to meet Kay, and shared a video on Instagram of the pair joking together.

In a casual black tracksuit, Kay joked he was going to eat "two lamb bhunas" and was in good spirits.

Bryan captioned the clip: "I was fortunate enough to be invited by my good friends to see Peter Kay’s amazing show at the O2.

"And then very lucky to meet the man himself backstage. Go and see Peter’s show, it’s incredible."

Many were left stunned by Kay's appearance though, with the 49-year-old clearly having lost a lot of weight and looking much leaner than he has in previous years.

One person commented: "Wow, that's some mega weight loss Peter lad."

Another said: "He looks much healthier than he’s ever looked."

This was echoed by someone else who wrote: "He looks as fit as a fiddle and very healthy."

A fourth added that they "didn't recognise him," whilst another said he looked "brilliant."

Kay was supposed to go on tour in 2018, but it was called off due to “unforeseen family circumstances”.

But last year he announced he was returning with a huge arena tour, his first in 12 years.

When he kicked the tour off in December, he became emotional following the rapturous reception he got from the crowd in Manchester.

He has also addressed his weight loss during the show, the MailOnline reports.

During one of his show, the comic joked: "See how much weight Peter Kay has lost!" as he twirled on stage in a black suit and blue jumper.
