Wayne Rooney mocked for his ‘inspiring’ message to England players to beat Iceland

It's at times like this when England desperately need a hero.

A Braveheart figure that can rouse the troops with some fiery words of inspiration to spur the boys on to glory. England face a deceivingly tough test against an Iceland team that have shocked everyone with their heart and determination - so now more than ever do we need a firebrand leader to roar the Three Lions on. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Wayne Rooney stepped up to send a message to his young England side ahead of the crucial last 16 clash on Monday. Only it wasn't really the passionate battlecry or tactical masterclass many fans probably had in mind. Rooney admitted that England have to be more ruthless in putting sides to the sword, after his side squandered a number of chances to put games to bed during the group stages.
