The Paris 2024 Olympics came to an end last night with the closing ceremony in the French capital, but some viewers weren't impressed, and were even left 'terrified.'
After just over two weeks of incredible sporting action and drama, the 33rd Olympiad officially concluded on Sunday evening.
Whilst the closing ceremony took place within the confines of the Stade de France - unlike the opening ceremony - it was once again a pretty unusual affair that certainly didn't play to type.
Much of the show involved a mysterious 'Golden Voyager' who excavates the Olympic rings from the Earth.
The figure was then elevated by a cast of dancers whilst the rings were lifted into the air and a series of fireworks were set off around the stadium.
This was then followed by a performance from French band Phoenix, a cameo from Tom Cruise, and a show from Los Angeles, the 2028 hosts, featuring Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg, Dr Dre and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
But it seems the Paris 2024 closing ceremony didn't quite land with British viewers, who concluded that the "terrifying" show wasn't a patch on the London 2012 edition.
One person wrote: "The #ClosingCeremony is lowkey terrifying."
A second said: "As far as raising the Olympics rings go, London 2012 did it best and wasn't as terrifying as whatever this hell is."
Sharing a picture of the Spice Girls performing at the 2012 closing ceremony alongside a picture of the 'Golden Voyager' in Paris, another commented: "What we had in London 2012 Vs Paris 2024...
"Iconic History vs whatever this horror despicable me."
A fourth said: "I'm sorry Paris you are not even close to the rings of fire from London 2012.
In case you'd forgotten, the London 2012 closing ceremony featured a Spice Girls reunion, a performance from One Direction, and Jessie J singing We Will Rock You.
Whilst London 2012 may have bested Paris in terms of ceremonies, it was the French who came out on top medal-wise at this year's Olympics.
France had their best Olympics since 1900 as they took home 64 medals, 16 of which were gold. They finished 5th in the medal table, ahead of Team GB in 7th.
