VIDEO: Amir Khan tells David Haye how he can beat Canelo

Questions were asked when Amir Khan was announced as the next opponent for Mexican pound-for-pound boss Canelo Alvarez.

But the Bolton fighter has defied the odds before, and he has laid out his gameplan to none other than former heavyweight champ David Haye. Stopping by at the Hayemaker gym ahead of his compatriot's return to action in May, Khan revealed he took the fight because he really believes he can win, and explained his thought process for taking on the man from Guadalajara.

"I believe by beating someone like Canelo it would definitely take me right to the top of the power rankings and also shut all the doubters up," Khan said. "At the moment people are going to say I'm too small and not good enough, and I'll admit that I am small and he's a monster. "When I do beat him, I'm going to shock the world."

When asked about his approach to the fight, where victory could lead to an opportunity to take on Gennady Golovkin, Khan said he wanted to learn from mistakes he'd made in the past.

"I was young then, and I've learned from them...the only way you're going to learn is when you get hurt," he told Haye. "I'm at a level now where I can't afford to be making mistakes, and against these tougher operators I can't afford to lose focus for one second."

As for how he's going to win?

"I'm going to expect hard, heavy punches. I'm not going to stand there and be stupid and take a silly shot."
