UFC middleweight Adam Hunter has been suspended before even getting the chance to make his promotional debut.
The Canadian middleweight (7-1) got the call up to the big leagues after going on the tear on the regional scene, racking up seven straight wins - with his most recent being a knockout victory over UFC Dublin II fighter Chris Dempsey.
Hunter was scheduled to make his UFC debut against Ryan Janes on the UFC Vancouver card in August. He successfully weighed in, but one day before fight night he was pulled from the event and the bout was scrapped entirely due to a potential anti-doping violation stemming from an out-of-competition Usada drug test.
Usada have since announced that they have banned the 33-year-old for two years after it was discovered that he had tested positive for tamoxifen metabolite, boldenone metabolites, methandienone metabolites, drostanolone metabolite, and clenbuterol. All of these substances are prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Tamoxifen is an estrogen modulator that decreases the growth of breast cells and is primarily used to prevent breast cancer, boldenone is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid, methandienone and drostanolone are anabolic steroids while clenbuterol is a fat-burner and a performance-enhancing drug.
Hunter’s ban is retroactive to August 26, 2016, meaning he’ll be able to return to competitive fighting two years from that date.
