Tom Daley has announced he his retiring from professional diving, just days after winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics.
In an emotional statement, the 30-year-old confirmed he would not be taking part at the next Olympics in Los Angeles and that it is "the right time to call it a day."
Daley won a silver medal in Paris alongside Noah Williams in the men's 10m synchronised platform event.
This was his fifth Olympic medal, to go alongside bronzes in 2012 and 2016 and a gold in Tokyo.
Announcing his retirement to Vogue, he said he knew when he competed in Paris that it would be his final competitive dive.
"It was emotional at the end, up there on the platform, knowing it was going to be my last competitive dive," Daley said.
"But I have to make the decision at some point, and it feels like the right time. It’s the right time to call it a day.”
Having made his Olympic debut at the Beijing Games in 2008 at the age of just 14, Daley has become a poster boy of Team GB.
After securing his first Olympic medal in the 10m men's platform event at London 2012, Daley secured another bronze in Rio four years later in the 10m synchro.
But it was in Tokyo that he reached the pinnacle of his career when he won gold in the 10m synchro alongside Matty Lee. Daley also picked up another solo bronze at these Olympics, and with his Paris silver a couple of weeks ago, he completed the set of medals.
Along with his five Olympic medals, Daley is also a four-time world champion, five-time European champion and four-time Commonwealth champion.
He ends his career as Britain's most decorated diver ever.
