Sir Alex Ferguson 'has chosen' who he wants to be Erik ten Hag's successor at Manchester United if the Dutchman does not survive the coming weeks.
Ten Hag is under extreme pressure after an unconvincing start to the season which has seen his side win only three of their opening eight games.
Reports have suggested that the 54-year-old only has the games against Porto and Aston Villa to prove he deserves to keep his job at Old Trafford.
If the coming weeks do not go to plan for the Dutchman, he could soon find himself cast out from club with the hierarchy already looking for replacement options.
Now, legendary United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has given his preference on who he wants to take over from Ten Hag if indeed he is sacked.
According to reports from Italy, the 13-time Premier League Champion wants former Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri to take over at the club.
Allegri supposedly is just one name of a selection of managers from across Europe the club are considering, including Thomas Tuchel and Simone Inzaghi.
However, Allegri proves an attractive proposition as a manager currently without a club after leaving Juventus at the end of last season.
Ferguson is not the only United legend to recommend Allegri, with retired left-back Patrice Evra previously recommending the Italian for the position after playing under him between 2014 and 2017.
He said: "He has incredible flair, more than Ferguson.
"Allegri always knows how a game will go before it starts. In the return leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League in 2015 in Dortmund, he predicted everything. Crazy. Before the match, he told us: 'This is a friendly'.
"Whereas, a few days before against Genoa, he was yelling at us as if it were in a Champions League final. Allegri is like this: he is obsessed with lesser games, he doesn't care about big matches."
Allegri has won six Serie A titles with AC Milan and Juventus and five Coppa Italia trophies.
