Paul Scholes agreed with Tottenham's decision to sack Antonio Conte as he slammed the Italian in a now-deleted Instagram post.
Conte was finally relieved of his duties on Sunday after he and Spurs came to an agreement to end his contract early after it was initially set to expire at the end of the season.
A statement from the club said: “We can announce that Head Coach Antonio Conte has left the Club by mutual agreement. We achieved Champions League qualification in Antonio’s first season at the Club. We thank Antonio for his contribution and wish him well for the future.”
Christian Stellini will now take charge as an interim head coach while chairman Daniel Levy looks to appoint a long-term successor. Julian Nagelsmann has been linked with the vacant role after his recent sacking at Bayern Munich. A return for Mauricio Pochettino has also been floated.
The decision to sack Conte has received mixed reviews from supporters and pundits but Scholes is one of those who felt the north London club had made the right decision.
In a post to his Instagram story - which he later deleted - the former Manchester United midfielder criticised the way Conte had handled himself while at the helm.
He said: "A manager gets sacked so everyone blames recruitment, and a top-class manager blames lack of ambition.
"Why don’t any managers say when they’re smiling and shaking hands with a player at their press conference, ‘I don’t like this player, I think [he] will eventually get me the sack.
"Saves the same old b******s once they are sacked or leave."
Tottenham return to action next Monday when they make the trip to the north west to face relegation-threatened Everton.
