Former Manchester City defender Nicolás Otamendi has been assaulted and robbed at his home in Portugal. The Argentine was assaulted by four assailants who put a belt around his neck and robbed money and watches from him. According to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manhã, the Benfica defender - who joined the club from City in September 2020 - was the victim of assault and robbery on Monday morning. Benfica have released a statement to respond to the episode, which read: "Benfica confirms that its player Nico Otamendi was the victim of a robbery at his home during the early hours of today. "The player and his family are doing well, despite the enormous discomfort generated by the situation they are experiencing. "Benfica asks that the privacy of the player and his family be respected by all the media, pending the completion of the investigations initiated by the authorities." The defender is in his second season with the Portuguese giants, where he has made 55 appearances so far.
