Mason Mount has revealed that the decision to make the move to Manchester United was fuelled by no longer being a part of Chelsea's plans.
Mount was officially unveiled by United on Wednesday after they completed a £60m to bring him to Old Trafford and secure Erik ten Hag's first signing of the summer.
United had been tracking the England international all summer and had initially planned to walk away from the deal after reaching a stumbling block in negotiations but eventually jumped over the hurdle and got the deal done.
In his first interview since completing the move, Mount revealed that he decided to leave the club he had spent 18 years at as a player after being made aware that he wouldn't be part of the new era at Chelsea.
Speaking to MUTV, he said: "Several months ago, it became clear that I wasn't in Chelsea's plans moving forward. Once I knew that United were involved, my decision was made up.
"A massive club, huge iconic players have played here, and I wanted to be a part of that from the beginning. Getting in early and ready for pre-season to start was a main objective of mine as well."
He added: "Having met with the manager, and discussed his plans, I couldn't be more excited for the seasons ahead.
"Everyone can see that the club has made big steps forward under Erik ten Hag. I am hugely ambitious; I know how amazing it feels to win major trophies and what it takes to do it. I will be giving everything to experience that again at Manchester United."
Ten Hag has shown how important Mount will be to him by giving him the coveted number seven shirt, which has previously been worn by the likes of Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo.
