Real Madrid defender Marcelo was left devastated after realising he had stepped on a mosaic of Manchester City's badge ahead of their Champions League semi-final at the Etihad on Tuesday. The incident occurred just before Real Madrid took part in their final training session at the ground, with the Brazilian speaking to someone in the stands as he exited the tunnel. As he walked onto the pitch, he walked over City's crest on the ground - which is located next to the pitch. Although the 33-year-old didn't actually do anything wrong, his immediate reaction caught everyone's attention. Not the first time, won't be the last

It was not the first time that a player has made the effort to avoid walking on City's crest, with Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez stopping Angel Correa and Rodrigo de Paul from walking on the badge ahead of their recent Champions league quarter-final with the Premier League club. Last year, Borussia Dortmund frontman Erling Haaland also decided to walk around a mosaic of City's logo on the floor close to the tunnel during their Champions League quarter-final clash last year.

City edge Madrid in seven-goal thriller

City opened the scoring through Kevin De Bruyne in the second minute, making Champions League history after his early strike became the quickest netted in a semi-final.

The opener beat the previous record set by Joshua Kimmich, who found the net in the third minute of Bayern Munich's showdown own against Madrid in May 2018.
