Manchester United have been told that they should try and sign a non-league star this summer in what would be one of the surprising transfers of all time.
United are actively in the market for an out and out striker this summer and have been linked with several top names.
Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen are the two favourites to replace temporary option Wout Weghorst, who has failed to impress since arriving in January.
Despite beating Wolves 2-0 at the weekend, Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag rued their poor finishing.
"We are very good in making the [opposition] goalkeeper man of the match! It happened today and at Brighton. We need better conversion, definitely," he said."
Any forward that United do buy will likely come at a hefty price, however one caller on BBC Radio 5 Live's 606 phone-in proposed a different option which certainly left eyebrows raised.
Speaking to Chris Sutton and Robbie Savage he said: "I know United need a new striker and they are going to have to pay £80-100m, but I wonder why they don't look at the two lads in the non-league.
"[Macaulay] Langstaff, 26 years old, 45 goals [41 in the league] this year for Notts County. [Paul] Mullin, 28 years old, 38 goals in 46 games..."
Although their goalscoring pedigree is there for all to see, Savage brought the caller back down to Earth, reminding them that United may have their eyes on someone more proven at the higher level.
"I'm not sure that Manchester United, you know if they get in the Champions League, will be going for Paul Mullin and Langstaff..." Savage replied.
Langstaff and Mullin are both almost certainly set to stay for Notts County and Wrexham's League Two campaign next season, with Mullin signing a one-year deal this week to remain at the Racecourse Ground.
