Lee Carsley has stated that he is confident that he is right man for the full time England job following a convincing victory over the Republic of Ireland this weekend.
Adding he always sees himself as a head coach and not a manager, he carried on that that would continue in that manner - should he be given the full time role.
It is expected that Carsley is to remain in charge for all six of the Three Lions' autumn Nations League clashes versus Ireland, Finland and Greece.
It is understood that a permanent appointment is anticipated by the start of England's World Cup qualification campaign begins, most likely in March.
Speaking on the Football Association's technical director John McDermott, Carsley explained how they have an excellent working relationship:
“We’ve got a really good relationship, you know, I’m highly supported by John.
“The fact he trusts me to take the job on an interim basis was a massive boost to my confidence because I think, in the back of my mind, I’m sure you’re the same, you always think it’s easy to be the England manager when you’re sat in the house and, you know, there have been times where I’ve thought ‘I’m not sure I could do it, I’m not sure’.
“It’s done my confidence good today, and the rest of the staff as well that, actually, we’re OK, we’ll be all right and I spoke about it at the first press conference, a safe pair of hands, I feel like we’re in a good position with the players.”
Then asked on what McDermott said to him after the game, Carsley stated:
“He just said well done, said it’s a good start, make sure we win on Tuesday.”
