Though he changed his footwear before the match started, one reporter was determined to find out why he had chosen to openly defy the rules, which state a player must wear all-white from the moment they enter the court surround.
Asked why he had chosen to walk on in red trainers and be interviewed while wearing a red cap, Kyrgios responded:
"Because I do what I want."
This prompted a string of follow up questions from the same reporter, who asked if this meant he was above the rules.
Kyrgios explained to the reporter he just liked wearing his Jordans, denied that he "moaned" about the controversy that surrounded him at the tournament and ended the exchange by telling the reporter to "keep doing you then champion".

The 27-year-old has already received two fines at this year's tournament and is expected to receive another ticking off for his breach of dress-code regulations.
"I sit here now in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon again and I just know there's so many people that are so upset," he later said. "It's a good feeling."
