We might have seen the last of Jamie Vardy’s famous blue cast

Recent seasons have left us wondering whether Premier League goalscorers boast superpowers whenever they don a wrist cast.

Luis Suarez started the trend during Liverpool's run to second place in 2013/14, a season in which he scored 31 Premier League goals. Vardy has confirmed that he's had surgery on the wrist injury suffered in last September's victory over Aston Villa - the real reason for the cast, despite speculation to the contrary.

"The operation would have needed me to sit out for a few weeks, but I was desperate not to miss games," he told Leicester's official site. "We were chasing something unbelievable and I wanted to make sure I was doing my bit with the rest of the boys."

So, that's the end of it, right? Well, maybe not. Vardy is apparently still protecting the injury for the duration of the Foxes' pre-season campaign, though he may have fully recovered in time for the Community Shield in early August.
