Doctors treating Liverpool fan Sean Cox, who was left in a critical condition after he was attacked outside Anfield last week, are hoping to bring him out of his induced coma later on Monday afternoon.
The fan, from Dunboyne in County Meath, Republic of Ireland, sustained head injuries before the club's Champions League semi-final against Roma on Tuesday. Cox has since been cared for at the Walton Neurological Centre, where medics are today attempting to revive him from a medically induced coma. The dad-of-three was attacked outside The Albert pub in Walton Breck Road prior to kick-off. The incident has been widely condemned by football officials, with messages of support for Mr Cox coming internationally from footballers, football clubs and European football's governing body, UEFA. Merseyside Police say there has been no change in Cox's condition since he underwent major surgery last week but doctors are confident that he will be able to start his path to recovery from the injuries sustained in the assault once he emerges from his coma. Roma president Jim Pallotta released a statement over the weekend, saying that he believes the two Roma fans who assaulted Cox were bringing down the name of the club and Italian football in general. "What's going on right now with Sean Cox in Liverpool, that's life and death and that affects his family," Pallotta wrote.Football
