Marsch gave the talk while he was manager of Red Bull Salzburg
Jesse Marsch may not be enjoying life at relegation-threatened Leeds United right now, but the American may still be able to pull the Yorkshire side away from the drop.
After it was revealed that Marsch tried to inspire Leeds winger Jack Harrison with a motivational quote from Mahatma Gandhi before Leeds' defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, our attention turned to the time the 48-year-old delivered an inspirational team-talk when he was manager of Red Bull Salzburg.
It occurred during the Austrian side's Champions League game against Liverpool in 2019, when both teams delivered one of the most memorable games of the competition.
Having gone 3-0 down, Salzburg were in danger of being humiliated at Anfield, however Hwang Hee-Chan pulled one back on the verge of the break.
Marsch delivered an inspirational speech to get Salzburg back into the game
As his squad gathered in the dressing room, Marsch delivered the instructions in a blend of German and English in a bid to motivate his team to get back into the game.
Marsch's talk was nothing short of inspirational and as revealed by the Mirror, this is what the American said to his players.
"Firstly, how many fouls have we committed? Maybe two?" he said.
"It’s not a f*****g friendly, it’s a Champions League match. We’ve got to play more physical and get stuck in.
"Be more ruthless against Van Dijk, we play with too much respect. Too much respect.
"Are they strong? Yes. But it doesn’t mean that we should be nice to them and don’t tackle them or fight.
"They have to feel us guys, they have to know we’re f*****g here to compete, not just that we’re here to stylistically going to try and play the same way, but we came to f*****g play.
"Let’s f*****g raise our will, our fight.
"We’re going to talk about tactics but when we step on to that field with more confidence and will. Now it’s us against them.
"We’ve seen that they are strong but we can do better and breathe life into our game.
"Self-confidence, physicality, that’s what it’s all about. They are not so dangerous with set-pieces. Come on, we have more to offer."
The talk clearly worked as within 15 minutes of the second half, Salzburg found themselves level. Takumi Minamino scored the second goal before Erling Haaland announced himself on the world stage as he came off the bench to equalise and put the pressure on the Reds.
Marsch may have to dig one of these out again as time runs out for him and Leeds to avoid relegation to the Championship.
