Alvaro Morata says criticism left him not wanting to get out of bed

"There have been times when I didn't even want to get out of bed."

Juventus forward Alvaro Morata has opened up on the criticism he has faced in his career, saying have left him not wanting to get out of bed. Morata was the victim of large-scale abuse whilst leading the line for Spain at Euro 2020, with the MailOnline also stating that he was booed by Spanish supporters throughout the tournament including shouts of "I hope your children die." The former Chelsea forward scored three times but missed from the penalty spot during the semi-final against Italy, which ultimately knocked his nation out the tournament, and Morata rhas evealed that the abuse left him struggling to get out of bed.

"The whistles are never nice," he said.

"No one is perfect, we are not machines and I know what is expected of me.

"I have seen parents, who were with their children, with angry faces and that's what they convey to their children.

"There have been times when I didn't even want to get out of bed. I've often said I've had a lot of bad times and, with another mindset, maybe I could have been a better player." The Juventus striker then went on to add that he recognises that he has the ability to fight his battle, whilst part of his struggles have been couple with getting back to fitness and dealing with the added pressure of replacing the void Cristiano Ronaldo left in the summer. He said: "I also have great willpower to get out of the dark times, otherwise I wouldn't have had the career I had.

"We are all under pressure after Ronaldo left. Myself maybe more because I am on loan. But when you are the master of your own destiny, the only thing you can do is work.

"I was out for almost a month and because I rushed my return I did not feel fully fit. I had to work a lot for the team and I didn't have the necessary clarity to score and be 100 per cent ready.

"In the last few games I played on the left, almost as a winger. But the important thing is to play and do what the coach wants.

"Obviously I would like to play better and score more but before the injury I was fine and then struggled to recover."
