England confirm Mount and Chilwell must complete 10-day isolation

Both players could return for the last-16 stage, depending on where England finish in the group

England have confirmed that Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell must complete 10 days of isolation following their contact with Chelsea teammate Billy Gilmour last week. Gilmour tested positive for Covid-19 after playing for Scotland in their 0-0 draw with England at Wembley on Friday night. It has been reported he held a lengthy conversation with Chilwell and Mount in the tunnel after the game. Although the pair have both returned negative test results in the time since, a statement on Monday confirmed they would isolate as a precaution after consulting Public Health England. A further statement released by England on Tuesday has now said Mount and Chilwell must continue to isolate up to and including Monday June 28. They will miss Tuesday's game with Czech Republic but, provided England do not finish second in their group, should be available for selection for their last-16 game. A statement from England said: "We can confirm that Ben Chilwell and Mason Mount must isolate up to and including next Monday [28 June]. This decision has been taken in consultation with Public Health England. The pair were confirmed overnight as close contacts of Scotland’s Billy Gilmour after his positive COVID-19 test following last Friday’s match. Chilwell and Mount will isolate and train individually in private areas at England’s training base St. George’s Park, with the rest of the squad returning there after tonight’s fixture against Czech Republic at Wembley. We will continue to follow all COVID-19 protocols and the UEFA testing regime, while remaining in close contact with PHE. The entire England squad and staff had lateral flow tests on Monday and all were again negative, as was the case with Sunday’s UEFA pre-match PCR tests. Further tests will be carried out as and when appropriate." If England top their group, they will play the team that finishes second in Group F at Wembley at 5pm on Tuesday 29 June. A draw with the Czech Republic would see them finish runners-up, however, requiring them to play the Group E winners in Copenhagen next Monday. Mount and Chilwell would both be unavailable.
