Ellis Genge accused of having a ‘chip on his shoulder’ by ex-Wales international

Genge was less than enthusiastic about clapping Wales' players off the pitch

England prop Ellis Genge has been accused of having a 'chip on his shoulder' by a former Wales international. Genge came on as a second half replacement for Mako Vunipola in the 67th minute of Saturday's Guinness Six Nations clash. He then proceeded to give away a costly penalty - one of many incidents of English ill discipline punished by the trusty right boot of Welsh fly-half Callum Sheedy. With wins against Scotland and Ireland already in the bag, victory over England saw Wales lift the Triple Crown for the first time in two years - Wayne Pivac's first in charge. There was more than an air of good fortune about Wales' win. You could argue that neither first-half try should have stood. The scores were tied at 3-3 after 16 minutes when there was a small break in play for a penalty. Water carriers from both sides were on the pitch when Welsh starting 10 Dan Biggar got the nod from referee Pascal Gauzere to resume play. Biggar took a quick-tap before launching a cross-field kick for Josh Adams to go over. Several English players were taking fluids onboard when the move rapidly unfolded and were caught unaware. As the Welsh players celebrated, Farrell approached Gauzere and begged him to reverse the try decision. "Give us a second," Farrell protested, "You've got to give us time to set." "Please," Gauzere fired back, "I talk first. I give the [signal] for time back on, I give the time for you to give the message to your teams. I say 'time on' and after is play on." Anger in the England camp intensified less than 10 minutes later when both Gauzere and the TMO controversially allowed a Liam Williams try to stand. It looked as if there was a knock-on from Louis Rees-Zammit, although it could have gone either way.
