EFL confirm postponement of Friday fixtures after death of Queen Elizabeth II

A decision on the rest of this weekend's fixtures is expected on Friday morning

A statement from the EFL has confirmed it has postponed its Friday night fixtures as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen had passed away peacefully at Balmoral on Thursday afternoon. Following the news, some have called for the coming weekend's football fixtures and other sporting events to be postponed. Two fixtures - Burnley vs Norwich in the Championship and Tranmere Rovers vs Stockport in League Two - had been due to be played on Friday evening, but the EFL have now confirmed via a statement that those games will be rescheduled. A further decision is expected to be made on Friday morning on whether more fixtures in the EFL and Premier League are to be postponed over the course of the weekend. 'As a mark of respect, following the passing of Her Majesty, The Queen Elizabeth II earlier today, the EFL has confirmed that its fixtures scheduled for tomorrow evening (Friday 9 September) – Burnley v Norwich City and Tranmere Rovers v Stockport County - have been postponed,' the EFL statement said.
