Conor Gallagher has responded to a sign held up by a young Chelsea fan following their 5-0 defeat at Arsenal.
Mauricio Pochettino's side were humiliated at the Emirates on Tuesday night as braces from Kai Havertz and Ben White followed Leandro Trossard's opener.
The thrashing came just eight days after Chelsea had beaten Everton 6-0 at Stamford Bridge, and sees them remain in ninth in the Premier League on 47 points.
During the game, TV cameras spotted a young Chelsea fan who was holding up a sign which read: "I don't want your shirt!! I want you to want to fight for ours."
After the full time whistle, Gallagher was asked for his thoughts on the sign, and whether he believed his teammates had fought for the shirt.
You can watch his response below.
The Chelsea midfielder replied: "We are definitely putting the effort in.
"I know how much it means to all the boys, I know it's been said many times, it's a very young squad with not much experience as a team in the Premier League.
"We have had a lots of ups and downs and we are still improving and working together as a team to get to the next level.
"Today was one of those days that we were nowhere near it.
"We need to dust ourselves off and also look at the performance and where we can improve and all the mistakes where we can put it right and move onto the next one."
Some fans were left heartbroken by the fan's sign, with one person writing: "This club is hurting this young lad."
Another said: "He looks so sad."
"The look on his face is even more painful," a third commented.
Someone else suggested the image should "nailed to the dressing room wall" by manager Pochettino so it serves as motivation for the players.
Chelsea are next in action on Saturday night when they travel to high-flying Aston Villa.
Arsenal meanwhile have a huge North London derby against Spurs on Sunday.
