Brazil sack manager Dunga after disastrous Copa America

Brazil are in the hunt for a new manager.

Dunga has been sacked just days after Brazil's surprise elimination from the Copa America Centenario at the group stages, the Brazilian Football Confederation has confirmed. A shock defeat at the hands of Peru on Sunday night is ultimately what sealed Dunga's fate. Brazil only won one game in their Copa America group, against lowly Haiti, while a draw to Ecuador and the 1-0 defeat to Peru ensured that they would not progress to the knockout stages. That loss came in very controversial fashion, with Raúl Ruidíaz appearing to help the ball over the line with his hand for the only goal of the game. Dunga, 52, was appointed manager for a second time in 2014 after Luiz Felipe Scolari resigned following Brazil's humiliation against Germany in the World Cup semi-final. The former Brazil captain, who led the Canarinho to their 1994 World Cup success as a player, also failed to deliver a Copa America last summer as Brazil were eliminated on penalties by Paraguay at the quarter-final stage. And after being unable to get his country out of their group at the 2016 tournament, Dunga was again relieved of his duties.
