Bayern Munich’s recent away form will encourage Arsenal

If Arsenal lose at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, their run in the competition will be all but over.

Defeats to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos have left the Gunners with no points from their opening two games, but there is some cause for optimism at the Emirates. While Bayern might be all-conquering in the Bundesliga, their form in Europe is less impressive...particularly away from home. The victory over Olympiacos in Greece was the only one of their last five Champions League away fixtures to result in a win for Pep Guardiola's side. Last season saw the German giants go out of the competition at the semi-final stage after a 3-0 first-leg defeat in Barcelona, but they were also humbled 3-1 by Porto in the previous round before responding with a 6-1 demolition at the Allianz Arena. They saw off Shakhtar Donetsk 7-0 on aggregate in the last 16, but all seven goals came in Germany. And despite opening up a 2-1 lead in their final away group game, Manchester City hit back with two goals in the final five minutes to snatch all three points.
