American hurdling star Chris Robinson had to “go commando” to secure a win in the 400m race at the Golden Spike meet in Czechia yesterday.
Despite a very unfortunate wardrobe malfunction — in which his penis fell out of his shorts — occurring some 250-metres from the finish line, the 24-year-old still went on to set a season best time of just 48.05-seconds.
In securing the victory, the American showed there is more skill to running hurdles that just speed and agility.
He was seen attempting to return his private parts to their rightful position multiple times throughout the final 150-metres of the race, all while maintaining top speed.
To make matters worse, Robinson became so pre-occupied with covering up his exposed genitals towards the end of the race, that he eventually clattered into the final hurdle. Luckily the 4x400m World Champion managed to hold on to his lead right up to the finish line where he lunged forward to win the day, just six hundredths of a second ahead of Brazilian hurdler Matheus Lima.
As Robinson crossed the line, he began to see the funny side, collapsing on the floor with a beaming smile on his face as commentators and broadcasters were left to apologise to their audience for the unexpected display of nudity.
World Athletics commentator Tim Hutchings said, "He hit that ninth hurdle hard. He was having an equipment failure there. I think that is probably the politest way to put it. There hasn't been time to censor them, but well done to Chris Robinson for battling a problem that does emerge occasionally" per The Mirror.
Despite his performance being somewhat overshadowed by the malfunction, Robinson will be delighted to have secured the win as he builds toward the World Athletics Championship in September.
There was more exciting news at the Golden Spike meet in Czechia as much-touted sprinter Gout Gout broke the Australian national record in the 200m race. The 17-year-old finished the race in just 20.02 seconds — shattering a record that has stood for more than half a century. The Usain Bolt comparisons won't be going away any time soon!
