The news was confirmed this week that Trent Alexander-Arnold will join Real Madrid following his departure from his boyhood club, Liverpool FC, but the full-back may have to retire the number 66.
After over 20 years on Merseyside, the 26-year-old is set to join the Spanish side this month to play in the Club World Cup following a £10 million deal with Liverpool.
However, his famous number 66 will have to be left in Liverpool.
Since his 2016 debut, the Liverpool man has worn number 66, something that has become entangled with his legacy, but due to La Liga's strict rules around squad numbers, he will have to pick up a new digit.
The league's strict regulations outline that first-team players must wear numbers between one and 25, and reserves 26 through 50.
Additionally, certain numbers are reserved for certain positions.
Real Madrid has yet to announce squad numbers for the Club World Cup or the next La Liga campaign, but we know that number 66 Trent Alexander-Arnold is no more.
