The US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has issued a chilling guide on how to survive a nuclear attack as tensions rise around the conflicts in both Ukraine and the Middle East.
In a move eerily similar to the preparedness of the Cold-war era, the agency's advice aims to shield Americans from the horrors of a nuclear explosion.
This comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a chilling message to the west after US and UK missiles, which were used by Ukraine, hit targets inside Russia.
The FEMA stated that survival rates aren't as bleak as they seem, but emphasised the significance of being prepared and comprehending necessary safety procedures.
FEMA's grim instructions read: "Nuclear explosions can cause significant damage and casualties from blast, heat, and radiation, but you can keep your family safe by knowing what to do and being prepared if it occurs."
When facing a nuclear fallout or radiation exposure, it's recommended to instantly strip off clothing and either take a shower or clean yourself with fresh, damp cloths.
It's crucial to plan beforehand by doing things such as creating survival kits and identifying the nearest fallout shelters to your house, workplace, or other regular spots.
If you happen to be caught outside or in a risky place during an explosion, find the most secure shelter and lay down flat with your facing towards the ground.
Cars are generally deemed unsafe during such an attack, so it's recommended that you crouch below the dashboard.
