The US military has carried out large-scale strikes across Syria targeting the Islamic State militant group.
The news of the attack was confirmed by US Central Command who said the strikes were carried out around 12:30 Eastern Time (17:30 GMT).
A statement read: "These strikes are part of Operation Hawkeye Strike, which was launched and announced on 19 December, 2025, at the direction of President Trump, in direct response to the deadly ISIS attack on US and Syrian forces in Palmyra, Syria, on 13 December, 2025.
"That ambush, carried out by an ISIS terrorist, resulted in the tragic deaths of two American soldiers and one US civilian interpreter."
It added: "Our message remains strong: if you harm our warfighters, we will find you and kill you anywhere in the world, no matter how hard you try to evade justice."
It has yet to be confirmed if there were any casualties.
It is the second strikes by the US in Syria with the first being carried out on 20 December.
These strikes come a week after the UK and France bombed an underground facility in Syria that was used by Isis militants to store weapons, as confirmed by the UK Ministry of Defence.
UK defence secretary John Healey said: "This action shows our . . . determination to stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies, to stamp out any resurgence of Daesh and their dangerous and violent ideologies in the Middle East.”
The ministry said there were no civilian inhabitants in the area around the targeted site and no indication that any risk had been posed to civilians.
