UK say they’re not ruling out helping Israel against Iran

It comes as both nations continue to attack one another.

Israel and Iran have traded missile attacks over the past few days, with Israel calling on US aid in its defence.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed that UK assets such as jets have been sent out to the Middle East.

Speaking on Sky News, Reeves said: "It does not mean that we are at war. And we have not been involved in these strikes or this conflict."

She urged for de-escalation in the region and added that the PM is at the G7 meeting where cooling tensions will be "front and centre".

According to Reeves, the UK's reasoning for an increased presence in the Middle East is to protect the "important assets" that it already has in the region.

Despite previously assisting in shooting down targets aimed at Israel, Reeves claims that the UK does not have the time for such things this time around.

When asked if the UK could become involved in the future, she replied saying that she is "not going to rule anything out at this stage".

Israel have made it clear that they wish to see a regime change in Tehran and Reeves was asked if this was a sentiment that she shared.

She replied that she has "no time for the Iranian regime, for the suppression of, the repression of, their own people".

Foreign Secretary David Lammy has been in contact with his Iranian counterparts, she confirmed.

Reeves added that the UK is not trying to "ramp up the rhetoric".

Her words come after US President Donald Trump issued a warning to Iran, that the US would fire back "at levels never seen before" should Iran decide to attack America.
