Google have celebrated the anniversary in brilliant fashion, providing an embedded mystery box that Internet users can click on to their heart’s content and be rewarded with coins just as they were in the original game.
Here’s how it’s done and it should work on any device.
Type ‘Super Mario Brothers into Google’.
When the results page comes up, click on Super Mario Bros. (Video game) in the ‘See results about’ box on the right-hand-side of the page.
When that results page comes up, keep an eye out for the flashing mystery box on the right-hand-side of the screen and click away to your heart’s content.
The noise and the sight of the coins will instantly bring back memories to the millions who have played the game and if you click enough times (trust us we’ve tried), you’ll even hear the familiar and oh-so-reassuring sound of an extra life.
Ah, that takes us back.
