Two major UK airports scrap 100ml liquid rule in long-awaited change

Travelling just got a little bit easier.

Birmingham and Edinburgh will no longer require passengers to adhere to the 100ml limit on liquids in their hand luggage.

The rules surrounding liquids were supposed to be scrapped last year, however it fell through as several aiports failed to install the scanners in time.

However, the Department of Travel has given airports the green light to bring these new scanners in.

Birmingham Airport was the first to introduce them last Wednesday.

An airport spokesperson said the scanners would “enable a faster and more efficient processing of hand luggage”.

He added: "We are pleased passengers can now benefit from this change in ruling, made by the Government in time for the summer peak."

Edinburgh also rolled out the new tech on Monday.

"The change allows more flexibility for passengers to take liquids through security, all while maintaining and improving our high safety levels through the use of 3D technology."

Other European airports have also rolled out the next-gen scanners, including Amsterdam Schiphol, Helsinki, Frankfurt, Rome Fiumicino, Milan (both Linate and Malpensa), Cork and Shannon.
