Two people have died and 19 have been left injured after a Mexican Navy ship crashed into Brooklyn Bridge.
Police have confirmed that the Cuauhtémoc, which was carrying 277 people, lost power on Saturday while the captain manoeuvred the vessel, forcing it to head towards the bridge abutment on the Brooklyn side.
Footage has shown the ship's towering masts hit the bridge as it attempted to pass beneath.
Authorities have said that crew members were standing on the masts as they snapped, causing them to fall to the deck.
Eric Adams, New York City Mayor took to X to confirmed the death's of two people, as well as sharing that two of the 19 injured are in critical condition.
Brooklyn Bridge has since re-opened, having not suffered any major damage.
'Mechanical issues' are believed to have caused the outage, according to police.
The New York Coast Guard said the Cuauhtémoc lost all three masts, but confirmed every passenger was accounted for and none fell into the water.
Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexican President, said she was deeply saddened by the loss of two lives.
The ship was towed from the scene following the incident.
