CNN has hit back strongly at criticism from the Donald Trump campaign over their refusal to broadcast an advert highlighting Donald Trump’s first 100 days as President of the United States. As you might expect, the advert, released by the Trump campaign on Monday, chose to ignore some of the more tumultuous aspects of Trump’s first 100 days in the White House, instead focussing on tax cuts, job creation and blasting media outlets for peddling ‘fake news’. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObsQ8_58V3Q Following CNN’s refusal to broadcast the advert, the Trump campaign released a statement on Tuesday, not-so-subtly titled ‘Fake news station refuses to run ad highlighting the president’s first 100 days'. The statement said that “CNN takes issue with the ad’s message calling out the mainstream media for peddling fake news and not reporting on the fact that President Trump is making America great again”. “It is absolutely shameful to see the media blocking the positive message that President Trump is trying to share with the country, said Michael Glassner, executive director of the Trump campaign. “It's clear that CNN is trying to silence our voice and censor our free speech because it doesn't fit their narrative.” In response, CNN issued a brief statement on Tuesday, outlining that their refusal to broadcast the advert was due to the accusation of ‘fake news’ levelled at the mainstream media, which the station labelled as ‘false’. https://twitter.com/CNNPR/status/859425426556542976 In case anyone was wondering if the term ‘fake news’ was going anywhere soon, it very much looks as if it’s not.
