Tim Martin vows to freeze Wetherspoon breakfast prices despite rising food costs

The current price of a breakfast at the pub chain is £5.75. For this, you'll get a fried egg, bacon, sausage, baked beans, two hash browns and a slice of toast.

But earlier this year, Wetherspoons put the price of its pints up for the second time in six months, rising by almost four percent from February 1.

Speaking to LBC on Friday morning though, Martin assured customers that the prices of breakfasts would not be going up this year.

Martin was asked by host Nick Ferrari what the "impact" of rising costs would be on the Wetherspoons breakfast, and whether he would be able to "hold the price on that."

Martin responded: "For you, yes!"

When asked how long this would be for, Martin continued: "You've caught me out here, this is too early for me to argue. So at the end of this year it will not go up this year due to this interview today.

"I'm being browbeaten by you!"

The Wetherspoons founder said food prices had gone up by 25 per cent and that some of his pubs had been forced to close as a result of soaring costs.

Speaking about the increase in drink prices, a spokesperson for the chain had previously told the Mirror: "Most prices in Wetherspoon pubs have increased by 3.95% from Thursday, 1 February, 2024. Some prices have increased by less. Ruddles Bitter has increased by 1%. Bud Light lager, Stowford Press Cider and Doom Bar bitter have increased by 2%. Draught Pepsi has not increased. The average increase, across all bar and food products is 3%.”

Martin added: “Wetherspoon, like most pub companies, has seen some big increases in costs. We believe that our prices remain competitive, even after these changes."
