James Ransone, star in The Wire and Generation Kill, has died aged 46.
In the popular show The Wire, Ransone played Ziggy Sobotka, a dock worker and gangster.
His performance received critical acclaim.
He also featured in Generation Kill as well as IT Chapter Two in which he played Eddie Kaspbrak.
The Baltimore-born actor was also known for his performances in other horror movies including Sinister, Sinister 2, In a Valley of Violence, Black Phone, and Black Phone 2, which was his final project.
The actor died in Los Angeles on Friday and the medical examiner indicated the cause of death was suicide.
Tributes poured in for for Ransone following the news of his death, with The Wire creator David Simon sharing a picture of the late actor with no caption on Bluesky.
Meanwhile, fellow actor François Arnaud posted on Instagram: “RIP James Ransone.
“Unique actor that I was continuously impressed and inspired by.”
He is survived by his wife and two young children.
